What is Artefill?Artefill is a dual-acting injectable filler. The two parts in this filler make it unique. First it has 20% Artefill Precision-Filtered Microspheres™ (made of PMMA, the same plastic like material used for dozens of medical implants over the last 50 years) and the second component is the other 80% bovine collagen gel with and added anesthetic of lidocaine. How long does Artefill last?About 5 years. Unlike all the temporary fillers that are absorbed by the body within a year, and require frequent repeat injections. Artefill is different. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body providing the lasting support your skin needs for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Is Artefill safe?A skin test is required as a safety precaution to make sure that you are not allergic to either the bovine collagen or anesthetic. Is one treatment enough to get the look I want? Most patients will see the results they want with 2 treatments, depending on the depth of their wrinkles and folds, as each patient is different. After the 1st session we do ask patients to come in for a follow-up appointment in 4 to 6 weeks, where a decision can be made to if further enhancement is needed for the best results. Occasionally, there is some bruising that typically disappears in 3 to 7 days. Arnica Montana can be taken a few days prior to, to help prevent the brusing. Less common side effects include rash and itching more than 48 hours after treatment, persistent swelling or redness, and increased sensitivity at some or all injection sites.
