Unwanted Hair Laser hair removal is effective only when the hair is actively growing. It is during this growth stage that the hair is attached to its follicle and vulnerable to the laser energy. The laser heats up and destroys the hair follicle and disables it from producing any more hair. Different body parts have different percents of hairs in the active growth cycle as opposed to the latent growth cycle or resting phase. When the hair stops growing it retracts from the follicle and sits, basically doing nothing, anchored in the skin. Laser energy can destroy these hairs temporarily but since the hair is not attached to the follicle the follicle is safe from the laser energy and will eventually regenerate another hair. At any given time, in general, approximately 20% of body hair is in the active growth phase. It therefore takes multiple treatments, usually 5 to 8, to achieve optimal results. Treatments are spaced according to the hair growth phase, therefore it is normal for the particular area of the body to be treated. St. Louis Skin Solutions uses different types of lasers depending on skin and hair types. Unlike other laser hair removal centers in the area we are not bound to one type of laser or laser manufacturer due to franchising agreements. Since we are independent we can offer a wider variety of treatments, specifically tailored to meet your individual goals. |
